Retention

When we remove your braces, we will begin the retention stage of your treatment.  The retention phase lasts for years beyond your active treatment.  Your final orthodontic result depends on your retainers, so follow through with the hard work you’ve put in so far.  Remember to remove your retainer before brushing, and brush your retainer before placing it back in your mouth.

Another type of retainer commonly used is the Lingual Bonded Retainer. This “permanent” (non-removable) retainer is most commonly used for the lower front teeth which are most likely to recrowd. It is intended to be kept in place for many years. Dental floss, inserted with a floss threader, should be used regularly to keep this retainer clean. It is non-adjustable but it should be checked every 6-12 months to ensure its integrity.
