When we remove your braces, we will begin
the retention stage of your treatment. The
retention phase lasts for a minimum of 24
months. Your final orthodontic result
depends on your retainers, so follow through
with the hard work you’ve put in so
far. Remember to remove your retainer before
brushing, and brush your retainer before placing
it back in your mouth.
Another type of retainer commonly used is
the Bonded Lingual Retainer. This is a “permanent”
(non-removable) retainer that is attached
(bonded) to the back of the teeth. This is
most commonly used for the lower front teeth
because these teeth have a greater chance
of recrowding. This retainer is intended to
be kept in place for many years. Dental floss,
inserted with a floss threader, should be
used regularly to keep this retainer clean.
This type of retainer is not adjustable but
it should be checked every 6-12 months to
ensure its integrity.
